Diwata wraps up third module of the Financial Literacy Series, considers MOA renewal

Financial literacy, once learned, can develop a person’s capability to manage money well and achieve personal financial goals faster.

On May 24, 2019, Diwata – Women in Resource Development, Inc., in partnership with FWD Insurance Philippines, wrapped up the third leg of the financial literacy series for the “Solar Lola” Engineers and their respective Aeta communities, at Diwata’s room in Clark Development Corporation, Pampanga.

“I haven’t had the chance to finish my studies, but I still have dreams of my own children finishing theirs. I would need to focus more energy into our livelihood and making sure our money is managed well. I would like to thank Diwata, FWD Insurance and Bayan Academy, because I learned something very useful today.” – Aeta participant Laila Lapuz on Diwata’s Financial Literacy Series.

An activity that started on December 4, 2018, Diwata’s financial literacy series originally covered sitios Mabilog, Kaging and Gayaman, and eventually extended its welcome to sitio Mataba. Facilitated by social development organization, Bayan Academy, a culturally sensitive lesson plan was prepared for all modules of the three-part series. These modules covered subjects and group activities related to financial objective setting, current sources of income, potential livelihood opportunities and goals for self, family and community.

This project marks a significant milestone for Diwata. Currently, the all-women organization is exploring a possible MOA renewal with FWD Insurance Philippines and all project partners involved. A MOA renewal would mean improved educational modules for its IP beneficiaries, and a strengthened partnership between FWD Insurance Philippines, Bayan Academy, and the Tanging Tanglaw project partners.
